You Go First!

Read Ephesians 5:21.

This verse says we are to submit to each other. What does the word submit mean? To submit means to yield to someone else. When we submit, we show respect for and do what is being asked of us.

Why does this verse tell us we should submit to others? When we submit to others, we are showing honor and respect to God. Just as one driver yields to the other driver and lets him or her go first, we are to yield to others. We don’t always have to be first or have things our way. In a family, we are to think of others.

Make a family challenge. Say the verse together every time you see a yield sign.

Copycat!

Play a game of Simon Says or Follow the Leader. Then relate the game to the concept of copying Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit.

When Jesus lived on the earth, He showed us how to live in a way that is pleasing to God. We must imitate Him. That doesn’t mean we should expect to live a sinless, perfect life like He did. But it does mean we should daily rely on the Holy Spirit to help us make right choices like Jesus did.

Read Ephesians 5:1 and 15-17. End your time praying together for the Lord to help each member of your family be a Copycat for Jesus this week.

Be Like Jesus!

Read the following Bible verses together and encourage family members to identify how each one provides an example to follow from Jesus’ life.

Matthew 6:10 (He prayed to God and asked for God’s Will)

Luke 4:16 (He was faithful to God’s house)

Acts 10:38 (He did good for/helped others)

John 13:34-35 (He loved people)

Luke 2:51 (He obeyed His parents)

Encourage family members to follow Jesus’ example in words and actions this week. Challenge them to celebrate when they see one another doing something that resembles the choice to be like Him.
