Book Reports

Assign a day for each family member to tell about his or her favorite book (other than the Bible) and why it’s a favorite. Spread this out over a few nights or do it all on the same night.

It’s fun to learn about new books. Books are a valuable part of our lives but there is one book that is better than all the other books in all the libraries put together.

Of course you know it’s the Bible. The Bible is more special than any other book because it is filled with God’s Words. It’s not just a book about God—it is God’s Word.

Read Hebrews 4:12, Psalm 12:6, James 1:21-23 and discuss them with your family. Pray together and thank God for the amazing gift of the Bible.

It’s On!

Use the Measure What Matters (HOME) chart from www.d6teacher.com and develop a challenge for your family to have a fun competition with. Provide an incentive for the winners in certain categories or a group incentive for the family team. The important thing is to inspire a greater love for God’s Word and the habit of daily interacting with it.

Part of interacting with God’s Word is learning to navigate it. Challenge family members to begin memorizing the Books of the Bible in order for the Old and New Testaments. You could even use a timer to see how long it takes to find a verse and encourage family members to beat their times next week.

Brainpower

Choose a Scripture verse to memorize together as a family. Some suggestions include:

Luke 10:27

Psalm 119:105

Psalm 119:11

John 1:1

Colossians 3:16

Teaching your kids to honor the Lord and His Word by hiding it in their hearts is one of the best ways to help them succeed in life. Consider working together to make a poster or banner to display a Bible verse, or encourage each person to make one of his or her own. Keep track of the Scripture art your family makes and display them in your home.
