KEY PASSAGE MOTIONS

Say the key passage using motions. Repeat several times and encourage your child for trying.

“Yet he himself (reach up with one hand) bore our sickness (reach up the other hand)…; punishment for our peace was on him (make a cross with arms in front), and we (thumbs to chest) are healed (elbow in) by his wounds (point fingers towards each other)” Isaiah 53:4-5 (open hands like a book).

REVIEW

Ask the following questions. Retell parts of the Bible story as needed.

Why was the man who could not walk lying by a pool? (He thought the pool’s water could heal him.)

What did Jesus do for the man?  (Jesus healed a man who could not walk.)

What did the man do after Jesus healed him? (He obeyed Jesus; He picked up his mat and walked.)

Why were the Jewish leaders angry at Jesus?  (Jesus broke their rule about not working on the Sabbath and He said He was God’s Son.)

SAY • The man who could not walk had been at the pool a long time.  He could not put himself in the pool to be healed.  Turns out, he did not need the pool at all!  He needed Jesus.  Jesus healed the man and told him to pick up his mat and walk.  The man obeyed.  In a similar way, we are sinners who need Jesus’ help.  Jesus can free us from sin so we can obey Him.

PRAY

Invite your child to share any prayer requests they have.

SAY • God, you see us and know when we need help.  Thank you for sending Jesus to help us in the greatest way by dying on the cross for our sin.  Thank you for freedom from sin so we can follow and obey you.  Help us trust you. Amen.
