EPISODE RECAP

When you think “family movie night,” the words that come to mind are “family togetherness” and “fun.” But you know what’s missing? The word “creativity.”

There are likely movies your kids watch that you have committed to memory from opening scenes to closing credits (You know you want to belt, Moana’s “How Far I’ll Go” right now. Go on. We’ll wait!). But here’s the thing about movies: The animators have done incredible jobs creating memorable scenes, which leave little room for the imagination. Instead of letting your mind paint the setting and imagine what characters look like, they’ve done all that for you.

What’s great, however, is the ever-evolving technology that often presents us with different mediums to stretch our creative minds. According to The New York Times, podcasts are “the new bedtime story,” helping listeners slip into a world far beyond the confines of their workplaces, cars, and homes.

Experiencing something together

Today’s media culture is mostly visually driven. With iPhones, Netflix, and YouTube, information is just shown to us. Podcasts allow listeners to create the world for themselves.

With that said, we’re excited to share our podcast, Miss Rory’s Story Emporium, with you guys! This podcast takes listeners inside a mysterious, yet magical bookstore where new adventures await on every shelf. Characters and listeners are literally pulled into the episode’s story (complete with dramatic audio production) where adventure and teachable moments about kindness and generosity await.

The podcast aims to help families experience something together that will help spark conversations around the themes.

“Video kind of separates families,” Greg Payne says. “You’re all watching an image, but you’re not together. Audio does that differently. You’re all participating. You’re building this world in your imagination. You’ve got conversation built in.”
