DISCUSSION
Summer Theme: Make Waves – What you do today can change the world around you
Bible Story: Have a Little Faith in Me (David and Jonathan) • 1 Samuel 18-20; 2 Samuel 9 (2 Samuel 4:4)
Bottom Line: Be faithful so others can count on you.
Basic Truth: I am made for a purpose so the Holy Spirit will help me do big things now.
Ask the following questions and lead the group to discuss:
- How were Jonathan and David examples of faithful friends? (They stood up for each other; they could count on each other; David kept his promises even after Jonathan had died)
- Why could it have been hard for Jonathan to honor David the way he did? (He wasn’t really supposed to use his royal sword and robes for anyone else; Jonathan’s father was trying to kill David)
- How does your faithfulness to God impact your faithfulness to others?
- What’s one way you could show more faithfulness to God this week? (Pray whenever we need help or just to praise God for something good; read our Bibles and complete our devotionals.
- What are some ways you can show up for the people in your life this week?
Remind kids that faithfulness is showing others they can always count on you.
- Encourage them to be that kind of friend this week. A wave of friendship from a faithful friend can go a long way and make a difference in the lives of others.
