Monthly Virtue: Joy – Choosing to celebrate what God is doing.

Memory Verse: “A cheerful heart makes you healthy. But a broken spirit dries you up.” Proverbs 17:22, NiRV

Week 1: June 2

Bible Story: Over and Over (Feast of Booths) • Deuteronomy 16:13-17 

Key Question: How can you remember to be joyful? 

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Ask:

  • What does joy mean to you?
  • When have you felt like the lost sheep?
  • When have you had the opportunity to celebrate what God is doing in someone around you?

Week 2: June 9

Bible Story: Over and Over (Feast of Booths) • Deuteronomy 16:13-17 

Key Question: How can you remember to be joyful? 

Basic Truth: I need to make the wise choice.

Ask:

  • When is it difficult to choose joy?
  • How can you remember to choose joy?
  • What kind of habits would you like to start or stop?

Week 3: June 16

Bible Story: Build Your Kingdom Here (Ezra and the Rebuilding of the Temple) • Ezra 3:10-13 

Key Question: What is something that took longer than you wanted it to? 

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Ask:

  • What is something that took longer than you wanted it to?
  • Are there steps in life that seem harder than others?
  • What about if you do something and it’s not what you hoped, and you feel disappointed? How could you celebrate even then?

Week 4: June 23

Bible Story: Reason to Believe (God Will Give Us Joy) • Habakkuk 3:17-18 

Key Question: What can you celebrate today? 

Basic Truth: I am loved by God no matter what so I can love God, love others, and love life. 

Ask:

  • What sight or sound brings you joy no matter how many times you experience it?
  • When is it hard to find joy?
  • What do you do when you feel like nothing brings you joy? Where can you go to talk about it?

Week 5: June 30

Bible Story: Reason to Believe (God Will Give Us Joy) • Habakkuk 3:17-18

Key Question:What can you celebrate today?

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Ask:

  • What is a reason to celebrate in your life right now?
  • What is the most recent party or celebration you’ve been to?
  • What is one way you’ve seen God at work in your life? How can remembering that help you choose joy?
