Monthly Virtue: Joy—Choosing to celebrate what God is doing 

Memory Verse: “Always be joyful because you belong to the Lord. I will say it again. Be joyful!” Philippians 4:4 (NIrV) 

Week 1: July 7- no services

Week 2: July 14

Bible Story: I Heard It Through the Grapevine (Wedding at Cana) • John 2:1-11 

Key Question: Who are the people who help you find joy? 

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Ask:

  • What are some ordinary things that give you joy?
  • Who are the people who help you find joy?
  • Is it easy to choose joy?
  • What can sometimes prevent you from feeling joyful?

Week 3: July 21

Bible Story: Come Rain or Come Shine (Be Joyful with Others) • Romans 12:15 (Supporting: Acts 2:42-47)

Key Question: What are ways you can help others find joy? 

Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Ask:

  • How do you like to celebrate with someone when something exciting happens to them?
  • How do you feel when someone you love is having a hard time?
  • How can listening and being present with someone when they are feeling sad eventually lead to joy?
  • How did Jesus show empathy to others?
  • What are ways you can help others find joy?

Week 4: July 28

Bible Story: At the End of the Day (Heaven) • Revelation 21, 22:1-5 

Key Question: What’s the best party you can imagine? 

Basic Truth: I can trust God no matter what.

Ask:

  • What’s the best party you can imagine?
  • Which part of John’s description of heaven is most exciting to you?
  • How can you celebrate what God will do?
  • Why is it sometimes challenging to focus on what God will do, rather than focusing on what God is doing now?
