DISCUSSION
Monthly Virtue: Compassion – Caring enough to do something about some else’s needs.
Memory Verse: “Let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16, NIrV
Week 1: Sept. 1
Bible Story: Lights Up (You Are the Light of the World) • Matthew 5:14-16
Key Question: How can you be a light?
Basic Truth: I am made by God to reflect His Image (act like Him)
Ask:
- Who do you know that needs light in their life?
- What can sometimes stand in your way of shining?
- Do we have to be perfect to shine God’s light?
Week 2: Sept. 8
Bible Story: More Than Enough (Jesus Feeds 5,000) • John 6:1-13
Key Question: When is it hard for you to have compassion? What do you think God could do if you had faith in that situation?
Basic Truth: I am made for a purpose so the Holy Spirit will help me do big things now.
Ask:
- What do you have that you can use to help others?
- Do you know someone you can help? If so, how can you help them?
- Why should you help others?
- What can stand in the way of your ability to help others?
- Why is it sometimes hard to share?
Week 3: Sept. 15
Bible Story: Take Time (Jesus Heals Bartimaeus) • Mark 10:46-52
Key Question: When has someone made time for you?
Basic Truth: I am made for a purpose so the Holy Spirit will help me do big things now.
Ask:
- Do you like receiving help from someone else? Why or why not?
- Why is time so valuable?
- What are some ways you can make time to help others?
Week 4: Sept. 22
Bible Story: I Saw the Light (Jesus Is the Light of the World) • John 8:12
Key Question: Where have you seen the light of Jesus?
Basic Truth: I am loved by God no matter what so I can belong in God’s family forever.
Ask:
- Where have you seen the light of Jesus?
- How can Jesus’ light guide you?
- How can Jesus’ light help you grow?
Week 5: Sept. 29
Bible Story: Carry You (Sharing God’s Comfort) • 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
Key Question: How can you show someone you care?
Basic Truth: I should treat others the way I want to be treated.
Ask:
- How can you show someone you care?
- What is one way you feel God comforts you when you are facing something sad or difficult?
- How can you use those experiences to [Bottom Line] comfort others the way God comforts you?
