What We’re Learning Aug 27-Sept 10th:
Nothing can bring out the crazy in you quite like family. Am I right? Deep down you know they probably aren’t plotting to make your life difficult, but some days it feels like that is exactly what they’re doing. Thankfully, the Bible has a lot to say about how we live with and treat other people. We’ll be looking at some different Scriptures in the Bible to give students some real, helpful advice on how to make the best move when it comes to love their family (YOU!) During this series, we are encouraging your kid to own their role (or “their moves”) in your family and to intentionally take steps that will make their family life better. This is a great opportunity for you to model what that looks like in your family. What’s one thing you could do this week to make peace in a conflict with your kids?
Starting a Conversation:
1) On Sept 2 & 3 Students will be bringing home a “Luke 6 Family Remix” where they adapt Luke 6:29-31 to apply to ways they can “make a move” in response to potential family conflicts. (For example, a student make use “If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also” as inspiration for their own pledge “If my sister takes my turn in the shower, I won’t yell but wait patiently.” We encourage you to write your own remix and talk about each of yours together! (Handout below)
2) Forgiveness is key to growing in God’s will for us. A parent modeling forgiveness in their family holds HUGE power. Do you need to ask for any forgiveness from your students? And do you need to forgive them for anything?
