Splink 1:

Eggs-Citing

Keep the celebration going! No one knows for sure why we associate eggs with Easter (since we don’t know exactly when people starting hiding eggs, we don’t know why they did it), but some say that the egg is a symbol of a new life. Just as new life emerges from an egg when the chick hatches out, some Christians saw the egg as a symbol of a life resurrected when Jesus broke out of the tomb.

Play some games with the leftover plastic eggs.

  1. See who can make the tallest tower stacking egg halves.
  2. Hold the straw to an egg piece and suck in your breath. See how many you can pick up and transfer to a cup.
  3. See many halves you can match in one minute.
  4. Put the eggs on one side of the room. Put a basket on the other side. See how many eggs you can carry with a spoon to the basket in one minute.

We celebrate because Jesus is resurrected!

What does it mean to be resurrected? (To come alive again after being dead)

Jesus who was dead came alive on the third day. If Jesus had not come alive again, things would be very different. We would not have any reason to celebrate today! We would be forever separated from God and have no hope! Because Jesus was resurrected, everything is better!

Splink 2:

Eyewitnesses

Hide an egg in a strange place and ask the kids to tell you what they saw.

(Give them time to tell what you did.) You were an eyewitness. What is an eyewitness? (One who has tells what he/she has seen.) You were eyewitnesses to me hiding the egg.

The Bible records the words of several eyewitnesses to Jesus’ resurrection. Real people saw Jesus alive after He had been dead and wrote about it so we can know that the story is true. The resurrection of Jesus is a historical event.

Another historical fact is that George Washington was the first president of the United States. Do you believe that George Washington was the first president? Even though we were not alive so we could not see George Washington, we believe he was president because of eyewitness accounts from people who lived then.

We believe the eyewitness accounts that Jesus came alive again after He was dead. Over 500 people saw Jesus alive after His death. (1 Corinthians 15:6)

Splink 3:

A Promise

Promise the kids a treat and deliver on it. (It doesn’t have to be food or ice cream. Promise that you will play a game after dinner or that they can stay up 30 minutes later.)

After you’ve kept your promise, talk about it:

What is a promise? (a guarantee to do what a person says he/she will do)

The most important thing to know about a promise is WHO is making the promise. If the person who makes the promise can be trusted, then you can count on him/her to keep their word.

Before Jesus died, He told His disciples that He was going to come alive again after three days. (Matthew 26:1, 2)

Did He keep His word? YES! Jesus is completely trustworthy and will do what He says He will. We can trust Him with everything because He keeps His promises!
