HSM Small Group Teaching Series January 2020
What We’re Learning: Identity in Christ
Our January High School Small Group teaching theme is our identity in Christ. One of the biggest questions those in the high school phase ask themselves is: who am I? We want students to know they are defined by the grace of Jesus – not school, looks, clothes, sports, mistakes, etc. I know you may be a little nervous thinking, “But school is important!” Yes – we 100% agree with you! School is important, but it is not the MOST important. The MOST important thing about us is our relationship with God. The Bible says we are new creations when we are in Christ – that is how we want students who have faith to see themselves and others:
2 Corinthians 5:16-17: “So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

Starting A Conversation:
1) What are some labels you have, or others have, put on yourself? Are you encouraged or hurt by those labels?
2) What are some labels God defines us with? How can we remember these labels are the most important?*
